These holidays, school playgrounds at 42 NSW public schools will be open for neighbours and others to enjoy under a NSW Government initiative to broaden community recreation and open space options. Schools in the program will be open from 8am to 6pm from 23 December to the end of the school holidays in late January. In October 2017, all NSW public schools will receive a 2018 Planned School Budget Allocation Report. The report will assist with the management of the total budget delivered to schools through the Resource Allocation Model (RAM). The Resource Allocation Model (RAM) methodology distributes funding based on the individual needs of students and schools. This gives schools greater flexibility to make local decisions. PARENTAL CONCERN

As explained to students last Friday, the girl's toilets will be locked during class due to the damage that has taken place in class time. All toilets are open before school and during recess and lunch when no repair work is taking place. Toilet facilities are available at the front office during class time. NDIS continues its roll out across NSW

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) started in NSW in July 2016, rolling out across half of the state. The rollout for the rest of NSW started on 1 July 2017 and the NDIS will be fully rolled out by mid 2018. The NSW government is writing to the families of children and young people with disability who currently receive disability supports in the rollout areas to advise how and when they will enter the NDIS. Tell Them From Me - Parent Survey

This Term, our school will be participating in the Partners in Learning parent survey, another part of the Tell Them From Me suite of surveys (student, teacher and parent surveys) on student engagement. NAPLAN Online School readiness test

NSW schools will participate in the NAPLAN Online School Readiness Test from 14 August to 22 September. There is a lot of information for schools, students and parents on the NAPLAN Online transition website. The school readiness test is a ‘practice run' for schools to assess their technology as we prepare to transition to NAPLAN Online. Canoeing Champions

Great Lakes College Canoe Team has once again returned home from the NSW Combined High Schools competitions as champion school. Saturday saw the Flatwater Sprints events held on the Clarence River in Grafton. From Sunday through to Tuesday, we headed out to the Nymboida River for the Slalom, Whitewater Sprints and Downriver events. This led up to the final presentation held on Tuesday afternoon. Support gets a new room – Welcome Aqua Room! 2017 has seen the Support Faculty welcome a brand new room, the Aqua Room, supporting various students from years 7 - 10. The addition of the Aqua Room makes our Support Unit at Great Lakes College Forster Campus a 5 classroom strong unit, supporting students from around the region. Introducing Healthy School Canteens

The introduction of the revised Healthy School Canteen Strategy increases the availability of healthy food and drink options in school canteens to make the healthy choice, the easy choice. It replaces the Fresh Tastes@School Strategy in NSW schools that was commonly known as the traffic light system.
